Full of dimension, its subtle clove-like taste is followed by a slightly sweet finish. This popular herb is best experienced fresh, as it quickly loses its aromatic flavor after refrigeration or when dried.
Originally cultivated in India, Purple basil is a staple within Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. Commonly recognizable as a key ingredient for making pesto, Italian tomato and meat sauces, or as a topping for a Margherita pizza, Purple basil’s flavor is a surprisingly unique complement to sweet and tangy fruits, as in a refreshing basil lemonade or tossed into a fruit salad.
